Letter sent from Thorshavn 30. April 1941 to Copenhagen, Denmark, bearing a “20 20”/5 øre provisional issue tied by “THORSHAVN 30.4.1941 9-13” cds. British resealing tape “P.C. 90 / OPENED BY / EXAMINER 4461 and Danish resealing tape and censor mark in red, most of these letters are with German instead of Danish censorship. In Dimmalætting 16 April 1941, it was announced that mail service to Denmark for ordinary letters was open from 16. April 1941, this letter sent only 5 days after the announcement in Dimmalætting.

Entire dated Paris 1 January 1809 to Copenhagen via Hamburg. Opened and censored in Hamburg according to circular 12 DEC 1807, re-sealed with red wax seal “Königlich Dänisches Post Amt zur Hamburg / FR VI”. Hamburg mark 9 JAN 1809, list no. 258-36”. A rare example of early Danish censorship.

2¢ ultramarine shade stationery envelope sent from St. Thomas 21 July 1879 to Portland, USA. With watermark IA, thin paper and ungummed flap. Carried onbard Brazil Lin’es COLORADO, first of three charters replacing regular sailings of USBMSC CITY ships. Small stain at top right outside the imprint. Eight 2¢ ultramarine stationery envelopes in used condition are recorded.

10 aur Printed Matter sent from Reykjavik to New York December 1925 posted aboard a ship in Reykjavik going to Aberdeen and there cancelled with the boxed “SHIP LETTER” alongside two-ring “ABERDEEN 2 – 27.DE.25”. Correctly franked with 10 aur.

Kongelig Tjeneste med Attest, HASTER, fra Københavns Amt 26 Marts 1848, til Roskilde. Indhold vedørende manglende fremmøde, formentlig vedr. indkaldelse til militær tjeneste. På forsiden påtegnet “K. T. / m.a. / Haster”, og forseglet med 3 laksegl som sjældent ses på tjenestebreve fra denne periode. Fra Napoleonstiden forsynedes breve med 3 laksegl og var dermed berettiget til særlig hurtig transport. Den 23. marts 1848 udråbte tyske embedsmænd, officerer og borgere en provisorisk slesvig-holstensk regering i Kiel.

Royal Service letter from Sonderburg 16 November 1738 to Husum with Sonderborg city wax seal. Front with Royal insignia - C6tus Königl. Commission Affairer ·/· and noted – ohne Attest – and crossed out; Königl. Commission Affairer. It is thought, that Husum sent a letter so that Sonderburg had to pay postage since Sonderburg is writing the following inside the letter; 6-tus setzen zu lassen, damit es an porto keine Kostern verursachen möge. Likely only recorded with reference to Royal Insignia letter was not charged. Illustrated in ARGE SCH 163.VII-VIII.

13 sk. letter sent from Odense to Amsterdam 26 October 1872 bearing a 3-strip 3 sk. and a 4 sk. bicoloured issue tied by railroad duplex mark “10” Fyen Jb.P.B.” and Amsterdam 12.10 arrival mark on reverse.

Postcard sent from Reykjavik to Gent in Belgium 5 August 1902, bearing a 4 aur 1900 and pair of 3 aur 1901, making up the 10 aur UPU postcard rate. Transit mark CDS “TROON 330 - C 13 AU 02” alongside boxed “SHIP LETTER - TROON” alongside and Gand receiving mark on front. Scarce combination.

Letter sent from US First Marine Brigade to San Fernando, CA 19 JAN 1942. Stamped by rectangular “Marine's Mail - CG 1st MarBrig (Provisional)” in greenish blue, alongside “Passed by Naval Censor” in same colour.

Rural carrier mail sent from Dalby Præstgaard Kerteminde to Copenhagen 28 November 1874 and boxed in manuscript on front “Betalt 4S frimærke”, franked with 4 sk. tied by numeral 33 alongside Kerteminde CDS 23/11. A rather unique endorsement on reverse “Afsendt 28 Novbr. 74 kl. 1 eftermidg. Fra Pastor P. Raae Dalby Præstgaard pr. kjerteminde”.

Letter sent from Iceland, stamped Reykjavik 29 September (1893) to Vejle, Denmark. The adhesive has gone missing enroute to Denmark, then noted in blue crayon with a cross “mgl” meaning missing/mangler with Copenhagen transit mark and Vejle receiving mark on reverse. Charged 30 øre by the addresse, which likely is the 30 aur 2nd letter rate, some restoration to preserve an unusual letter from Iceland.

PRINTED MATTER envelope St. Thomas 7 February 1905 to Utrecht, The Netherland. 1¢ Coat-of-Arms issue (AFA 16) tied with “UTRECHT 24 FEB 05” receiving mark on reverse. In this form as an envelope sent as printed matter is extremely rare. Rate 1¢ from 1.1.1902 – 14.7.1905.

Letter docketed Ballum, postmarked Ballum September 1862 sent to Ebeltoft v/Grenaae. 4 sk. V printing tied by numeral Ballum “161” and date-stamp “BALLUM 1x/9 1862” and transit mark “GRENAAE 16/9 1862”, on reverse “AABENRAA 14/9 4-6 EF”.

Air mail letter sent from Copenhagen to Brazil 15 June 1936 bearing HC Andersen 30 øre 3-strip and pair 2 Kr. King Chr. X tied by CDS “KØBENHAVN 12 - 15.6.36” and front stamped with red “DEUTSCHE LUFTPOST - EUROPA-SÜDAMERIKA”. Letter rate 30 øre 0-20 gram, plus 2x 230 øre airmail surcharge each 5 gr (5-10 gram), correct franking of 490 øre.
