From Holsten the rate was 2 Sch., underfranked and thus charged 6 Sk. Danish in blue crayon, and stamped boxed “Unzureichend frankirt”. A very light bend in the stamp at right.

Censored airmail letter sent from Copenhagen to Thorshavn 17 September 1943, franked with 260 øre, 20 aur letter rate + 3x80 øre air mail surcharge. With German, British Bermuda (I.C) and U.S. censor ship and resealing tapes, transit New York 9 December 1943 on reverse.

Smuggled entire letter sent from Odense to Aarhus Mølle via Copenhagen 19 July 1864 bearing a 4 sk. 1864 (defect) tied byy numeral “51” and CDS “ODENSE”. It was the procedure that letters should wait some 5 days in transit in Copenhagen before being forwarded in order to make the enemies intelligence service more difficult. Rare.

Stamped St. Thomas January 15, 1851, sent to Woonsocket Falls, U.S.A. Struck on reverse the small double ring type “ST. THOMAS JAN 15 1851” and forwarder cachet “FORWARDED BY / G.W. SMITH & CO. / ST. THOMAS W.I.”. Prepaid “1/” and stamped crowned double ring “PAID AT ST. THOMAS” and on arrival in US struck “STEAMSHIP 10” cents due, likely New York mark.

Letter from APO 810, Iceland 25 March 1942 to Michigan, USA. Mixed franking with Icelandic 10 aur herrings and US 3¢, tied by machine cancel “AMERICAN BASE FORCES / A.P.O. 810/ MAR25 / 1942”. Sent by K. P. Coan, 1st. LT. 46th F.A.Bn. Mixed frankings are unsual, although the Iceland stamp were superfluous.

Parcel card to Blicher Nielsen, Upernavik. One 10 øre 1915 IV printing, 70 øre and two 3 Kr. 1930-issue (AFA 7, 10, 12) tied by oval mark “GRØNLANDS STYRELSE” in black, GF1, no. 21.01). Two parcels weighing 6,75 and 6 kg., total postage 680 øre. Parcel card “Form. Ah. 57019” GF13.

“Inside Franking” on top of revenue document dated 1870 with two 4 sk. 1864 Coat-of-Arms issue adhesives (perfs. cut down), tied by ink cancellation. Letters/documents handed in to the Local Customs office collected all letters/documents with its other papers sending it to the administration in Copenhagen. Letters/documents from the public had to be franked by the public with the appropriate letter rate, with the aim preventing the public not to enjoy free postage.

Letter docketed Kronburg 26 Dec (1850) sent to Kiel. A fascinating letter with censorship “Efterseet af kommandantskabet / over Kronborg Fæstning / Signatur” with full contents preserved. The letter is written by a professor son writing to his parents and making reference to other military persons also at the Kronborg castle. A most unusual military censorship at Kronborg and at the same time also with cachet “Segel der Polizei Amts in Kiel” on the reverse. Extremely rare.

Complete set of King Christian X bicolored issue in pairs on small cuts, all tied by datestamp “ST. THOMAS 13.3.1917”. Complete sets larger than single stamps in used condition are extremely rare.

2 (Sk.) stationery envelope sent from Copenhagen to Aarhus on 17 July (after 1875), cancelled with Duplex 34 “KIØBENHAVN JP 17/7 10F”. Uprated with 4 øre bicolored, rare skilling/øre mixed-franking on stationery envelope. 4 øre bicolored defect perforation at lower perforation. Otherwise fine.

Unpaid letter docketed St. Thomas 13 May 1863 to Marseille via London. Sender’s cachet “SEGOND & LAFERRIÈRE / ST. THOMAS” struck on front, routing order – Par ”Atrato” RMSPC “Atrato” to London. On reverse British double ring small type “ST. THOMAS MY14 1864”, 1-ring “J M / LONDON / MY-28 / 64”, “PARIS / 29MAI 64 / 60”, “3 MARSEILLE 3 / 30 MAI 64 / (12)” and on front “ANGL. / 29 MAI 64 / AMB. CALAIS D” and struck accountancy mark “GB // 1F60C” and numeral type “8” decimes due by addressee.

Docketed “St. Peter, St. Croix 2 July 1827” to Madeira care of Thomas Murdoch Esq, London. Struck boxed “PACKET LETTER” in red, London 2-ring “B / 17 AU 17 / 1827” black, charged 2/2 to London by addressee for a single rate letter.

Printed circular originating St. Johns, Porto Rico 31st December 1870, posted at the British post office at St. Thomas 2 January 1871 to Kingston, Jamaica. GB 1d plate 106 tied by “C51” vertical type and datestamped “ST. THOMAS / A / JA 2 / 71 / PAID” 1-ring in red ink and with Kingston receiving mark “KINGSTON / B / JA 5 / 71 / JAMAICA” and sent onboard RMSPC “Shannon”.

Money order for 1 Mk. 45 pf sent from Flensburg to Leck 6 March 1920, bearing a 20 and 25 pf Plebiscit tied by CDS Flensburg. Letter rate 20 pf plus 25 pf for Nachnahme, correct 45 pf franking.

Air mail letter sent from Copenhagen to Knoxville, USA on 30 March 1940 bearing a 10 øre, 20 øre, 50 and two 15 øre air mail stamps, paying 30 øre foreign rate plus 80 øre air mail surcharge. Sent “via Frankrig”, this route ceased 9 April, when Denmark was occupied by Germany.
