Kvadrater 1851-63

Colour proof of 4 sk. 1854 plate IV, block of six with full left sheet margin, pos. 41-42 / 51-52 / 61-62, without gum and burelage IIb printed in blue colour and dotted spandrels. The two stamps above with dotted spandrels and the lower four stamps with empty spandrels - a very rare example the upper and lower half sheet. In the Postal Museum the printing plate has empty spandrels in the lower half sheet of 50 stamps. Plate IV has been used for the last 1854 printing IV delivered from 16 June 1859. It is not known why this plate has had the spandrels removed, but perhaps experiments were made for a new design without spandrels and trials for another burelage colour since the yellow one that were used were sometimes almost invisible.

Pair 16 sk. lilac imperforate pair, pos. 94-95 with large white line above POST in pos. 95, wide margin below, hinged and in excellent condition. Exhibition item.

Letter from Copenhagen 27 January 1862 to Paris, France. Pair 16 sk. 1857 and 4 sk. 1858 wavy-line spandrels tied by numeral 1 COPENHAGEN, datestamp KIØBENHAVN KB 27/1 and red transit TOUR T – VALENCIENNES 2 1 JAVN 62, on reverse KDOPA HAMBURG and HAMBURG T&T. Rate note ’26 / 9’ with 9 sk. Danish share and 26 sk. foregin share. Postal rate 35 sk. to France from 26.3.1860 – 31.3.1862, inevitably overfranked by 1 sk. since a 1 sk. Danish stamp never was issued. A very beautiful and rate letter.

Lettersheet from Horsens 30 December 1851 to Altona, Duchy of Altona. 3-strip 4 Rigsbank-Skilling Ferslew printing, Plate I, pos. 54-55-56, cancelled with mute 5-ring cancel and datestamp Antiqua IIb HORSENS 30/12 1851. 12 sk. rate to the Duchy of Holsten from 1.4.1851 – 30.6.1853. Few recorded, exhibition quality.

Die in black of 4 sk. 1858 wavy-line on the right (with control figure 4) and on left side a die in negative with six different samples of a new wavy-line, both vertical and horizontal. Rare

4 sk. dotted spandrels 1854 VI printing on piece, cancelled with ink manuscript ‘Broager 27/11 1859’. Very decorative and a rare cancellation. Broager manuscript cancellation is recorded from 21.8.1858 – 27.11.1859, fold and slight cut in top of the stamp.

2 skilling 1855 pair, mint never hinged. Plate I pos. 52-53 with white line through 2 in right stamp which make it looks like an '8'.

Thiele 2 Rigsbankskilling type 2 disjoined foot in pair, plate I type 10 & 2, pos. 48-58 with black numeral 1 cancellation. Clearly visible disjoined foot in pair with huge margins.

Letter sent from Copenhagen to Barth 17 November 1862 bearing a 2 sk. 1855 and pair of 8 sk. 1858-issue, both tied by duplex “181 - SJ.JB.P.SP.B. 2 TOG” alongside boxed “Aus Dänemark” with transit marks “KDOPA Hamburg”, 2-ring “HAMBURG” and two-ring “BAHNHOF-HAGENOW” on reverse. Rare combination.

Letter from Svendborg 7 June 1858 to the small island Lyø just outside Faaborg. 4 Sk. 1854 cancelled with numeral '70' Svendborg, backstamped with straightline mark 'SVENDBORG' LIN-2, and manuscript '7/6 1858'. Only recorded example of this 1-line mark.

Market report sent from Newcastle Tyne to Randers 26 September 1854 bearing a 4 RBS Thiele III tied by numeral 113 alongside “KPA ALTONA 29.9.54” CDS. A unique example of the enterprise arisen from the stampless period in Hamburg from 1.1.1853 – 31.7.1855 when letters only could be paid by 6 sk. in cash when sent from Hamburg. In order to save 2 sk. postage, agents carried letters to Altona from where they could be sent for only 4 RBS. A proof of this unique service proven by the seal “BEFÖRDERT DURCH HAMBURG – HIN.R. PELTZER” – Only recorded example.

4 skilling rouletted issue 1863, canceled with esrom style postmark 'SKJBK' Skjærbæk. Upright and distinct cancellation.

4 sk. 1854 and 8 sk. 1857 dotted spandrels, in pair with upper sheet margin from 1924 Reprints. A rare set.

Printed matter from Slagelse 2 July 1856 to Faaborg. 4 sk. 1854 dotted spandrels tied by numeral 65 and datestamp alongside SLAGELSE 2.7.1856. The weight of the printed circular is 30 grams. Rate 4 sk. 1.4.1851 – 1.10.1865 until 60 grams. Stamp cut above but a quite scarce postal document.

Market report sent from London to Copenhagen 5 October 1854, franked with a Danish 4 RBS Thiele III olivebrown plate IV-49 tied by pen cancellation alongside Altona two-ring CDS, showing Copenhagen Compass mark on front. Without the ban, though still a rare item with ink cancellation.

Envelope from Copenhagen 23 May 1858-65 to Vienna, Austria. Prepaid with 16 sk. 1857, 2 sk. 1855 dotted spandrels and 4 sk. 1858 wavy-line issue, all full margined stamps tied by numeral 1 and datestamp - KIØBENHAVN KB 24/5 9-10M – and boxed FRANCO and red – Aus Dänemark – struck on front. From Danish rayon 2 – 9 sk. – to Germany-Austrian postal union rayon 3 – 13 sk., total 22 sk. postage. Letter’s sent to Vienna, Austria are far scarcer than other 22 sk. rates to Germany.

Letter sheet originally sent from Kiel to Copenhagen on 13 September 1853, charged “6” sk. due in red crayon. In Copenhagen re-posted and sent to Helsingør on 14 September and affixed with a prominent plate-flaw of the 4 RBS Thiele I, plate I, pos. 1 (Hakmærket) tied by numeral 1 (Copenhagen) alongside letter-box mark “Compass KB” type. An interesting combination showing the unpaid rate of 6 sk. in cash either due or prepaid and the favored 4 RBS rate when affixed a postage stamp. Circular 3/1852. If a cover had been out of the care of the post office a new postage had to be paid again.

Ladies envelope with embossed ornamention sent from Sorøe to Kjøge on 3 February 1856 bearing a 4 sk. 1854-issue tied by numeral “67” alongside CDS “SORÖE 3/2 1856”. Decorated letter sheet included. Rare in this condition.

2 Rigsbankskilling Thiele printing Plate II-84, type 8 on foot-post letter tied by numeral “1” alongside foot-post marks “17/4 55”. The letter contained two forged “Sølvdalere” manuscript “Indlagt, 2 falske Sølvdalere”. Letters within the Copenhagen ramparts were allowed to weigh up to 500 gram and still subject to only 2 sk. letter rate. Very extraordinary letter and only recorded example proving the special regulation.
