The King’s initial sin stylised form with a conventionalized royal crown above, signifies Royal Franking Privilege with certificate. Postal markings list number “1-“ on reverse. From 1 August 1771, a royal regulation announced, that military letters on official matters between the officials were subject to a certificate (Fr. Olsen, page 179.)

Favored rate 25 BIT within 1500 nautical miles from 1.5.1907 – 30.9.1909 plus 25 BIT registration fee, normal letter rate 40 BIT for all other countries. Announcement in St. Thomas Tidende 16.4.1907, included favored rate to Barbardos, Canada, Cuba, Curacao, USA, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Tobago and Trinidad, lowering the rate from 40 BIT to 25 BIT on 1 May 1907. SUPERB in every respect.

Manuscript blue ink '21/8 retour' and stamped Prussian two-ring 'CHRISTIANSFELD 21/8 69 8-9V' and reception mark Kolding 21/8. Rural fee '2/1' red crayon. A very rare example of a returned border rate letter.
