THOMAS 6 FEB 1853” and arriving Southampton 7 March, stamped London 7 MR 1853, transit “AUS ENGLAND 8/3”. Routing instruction “Pr. Steamer via Ostende). Due to heavy gales from 15/2 delayed for more than a week. Charged 1/4 d for British postage, and German due (58 Rb. Sk.). Letters from DWI to Germany from this period considered a rarity.

Unpaid letter sent from St. Thomas to Nantes 24 January 1866 by French line B via St. Nazaire. Stamped French Octagonal “ST. THOMAS - PAQ. FR. B No. 1” and two-ring “COL. FR. PAQ. Fr. - 2 ST. NAZAIRE 2” in red. Erroneously stamped manuscript due mark “16” decimes and corrected to 10 decimes. In January 1866 the weight and rate changed from 7,5 grms to 10 grams per letter, and increased from 80 centimes to 100 centimes (10 decimes). Interesting letter.

Interesting information about the 2/3 and 8/10 provisionals, and the 8¢ Coat-of-Arms issue that are not yet being sold to the public at St. Thomas since there is still a stock of the 10¢ provisionals. But, that he might be able to get them from St. Croix !
